PLANS to transform Uganda Museum into an international museum are underway. Tourism state minister Serapio Rukundo said that after the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in November, the museum would be transformed into an international to showcase international cultures.
Rukundo was officiating at the re-launch of the new look of the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre in Entebbe. The launch was part of the celebrations to mark the World Tourism Day.
"We are renovating the Uganda Museum. Short stay visitors could utilise the short time they have by visiting our nearby tourist sites," Rukundo said.
The tourism industry is one of the fastest growing sectors in the world with over 842 million people touring the world every year.
Rukundo said the number of tourists who came into Uganda in 2006 reached over 535,000, which was a big boost to the industry.
"This is still a small figure comparing it to the 1.7 million for Kenya."
